If you head over to Amazon right now, you can buy my book, "The Future of Social Commerce" for just 99 cents. Yep, that's right. I have gone completely mad.
Update: This pricing experiment is over. Read “The 99 Cents Book Failed Miserably†to see how it went.
Regular readers will know that I do not like the 99 cent price. I have written several articles about it, including the popular "The Myth of the 99 Cent Book." In it I explain how the math just doesn't add up, and how the authors are shooting themselves in the foot.
So why am I suddenly doing exactly the one thing that I telling everyone not to do? Well ...It's a test.
Many have sent me stories about authors selling their book for 99 cents. Amanda Hocking is just one but there are many others. And each story is even more fantastic than the other. One story I received last night told of an author selling her book first at $9.99, and got almost no sale. Change it 99 cents and sold 3,000 in no time at all.
What people have been telling me is, "you don't know until you tried!"
Fair enough. I'm game. Let's try it.
Starting today, and ending in 7 days, you can buy "The Future of Social Commerce" for just 99 cents.
I have to be honest here. I don't expect it to work. The math just doesn't add up. What it means is that I need sell 19 book for every one I sold before. That is the difference in royalty that I will earn on each book (I will only earn 35 cents per book.)
I just don't see that happening. I'm sure that sales will go up, but not by the 1900% required to break even.
But now is your chance to prove me wrong, and get a great book for just 99 cents. So tell your friends, have a blast, and go get the book.
Then by the end of next week, I will tell you the result of this little experiment. It's like Mythbusters. Is the 99 cent book "busted", "plausible" or "confirmed"?
Note: Because of how the world works. The book will be sold at 99 cents + VAT and other expenses. That means that in Europe, the same book will cost $2-$4. The book itself is still just 99 cents and I'm still only getting 35 cents per book, the rest is taxes! Sorry, but there is nothing I can do about that.
