Let's start off with how to commit brand suicide. Earlier today, Fashion brand Kenneth Cole tried using the unrest in Egypt to promote their spring collection, with this tweet.

Obviously, people are outraged and Twitter is overflowing with angry responses. The social backlash is in full swing.

As Shelly Kramer put it, "Using the unrest in Egypt as a springboard to promote their Spring collection seems to me just about the worst strategic move ever. Never mind a definitive step toward brand suicide." And as Mack Collier puts it, "You don't attempt to leverage an online conversation you aren't participating in."

And while you might think this was posted by an intern or something, you would be wrong. This was posted by the CEO.

He later tried to apologize by saying "We weren't intending to make light of a serious situation." But as Alexia Tsotsis says, "Bullshit. Yes, yes you were. That's exactly what you were doing." Trying to save face by lying about why you did it? Not a good plan.
