What makes us Happy?

I recently watched Psychologist Dan Gilbert's excellent presentation on happiness. It is from 2004 - but I think the message is just as fresh today as it was back then.

He makes 3 interesting points:

  1. We are not very good at determining what makes us happy
  2. We always adapt to define happiness as to whatever it is that we already own.
  3. We are happier when we have to make a choice and are forced to stick with it - than to make a choice that we can change later. The thought of being able to change our minds makes us indecisive.

Really worth a look (21 minutes - from TED)
