Safari for Windows Vista

This was one thing I never expected to happen, but Apple has release Safari for Windows. They claim that it is twice as fast as IE7 - but it does have a cool text-field resizing feature. The days of annoyingly tiny text fields are over.

It does fix some of Safari's strange CSS bugs (on both the Mac and Windows versions).

I must admit, that it doesn't really feel like a Vista application - kind of low-tech looking (the same effect as when people see a Windows interface on a Mac - it really doesn't work very well). And, most annoyingly it breaks standard window behavior. For instance it doesn't minimize when you hit [Windows key]+M... grrr...

One embarrassing thing... Apple own website does not work well with Safari for Windows. If you try to close one of their new Leopard demos it gets stuck with a box in the middle of everything.

Maybe they should have tested it a bit more... just an idea.

Note: It does work with Safari on the Mac, IE7 and Firefox.

Huphtur,

I didn't try "D" - and yes that works. But, M should work too. Thanks though.

Windows logo key+D - Display the desktop

Windows logo key+M - Minimize all windows

I downloaded it immediately and have been testing it. The only real problem I've had so far is that my bookmarklets don't work.

I guess Google really must pay for their search field in Safari! If Apple can afford to port Safari (though it's core component is being ported to Windows by the open source community) and earn money on paid search results it really must pay off!

Windows + M. That's a new one to me. Frankly, I prefer ALT+Space+M (or ALT+Space+N on a danish windows).

Those keys are just below my fingers, and I don't have to waste awkward finger position energy to force my 4th finger down to the windows key on my laptop.

Aargh. Sorry for swapping things around. That would be ALT+Shift+N for a normal English Windows XP

Jesper, you are strange (or maybe it is your Lenovo machine) :)

But, ALT+SHIFT+N doesn't work on Vista (my guess is that it is a relic from the pre-windows key days - now removed).

I have a new computer loaded with Vista. All the text is overlapping regardless of what resolution I set. and the recommended resolution is so small you have to read it with a magnifying glass. Did I understand that if I download Safari it will will fix my overlapping and my text size. Any advice would be welcome--I hate Vista.
