Pink Edition

One week in: I need new colors

This new design is only one week old, but I am already beginning to hate the colors. It's not me, it's not right.

I like the design, is just that the colors are wrong somehow. I think it is because brightness level is all in the same range - not enough color contrast. It is not dark enough - nor is light enough.

So I am trying to find some new colors - and I would like your opinion:

Classic Style

Dirt Style

Intense Style

City Grass Style

Beach Sand Style

Power Style

Which one do you like?

Hej Thoms

Linda and I like the green or the purple, so classic style or city grass style.

I liked "Dirty" best.

I like them all. They all portray a certain feeling. If I had to choose I would need to know more about you and the site. In the end it comes down to what feels good for you. What image or "branding" fits you best? The youthful, hip, bright colors? The more modest, warm natural colors? Etc.

And how do you want to come across?

Thanks for the feedback - I appreciate it :)

Matthijs, I want to come across as something warm and fuzzy, yet powerful... a bit like a friendly tiger.

Hey Thomas

Okay, so if you want to come across like a tiger, you should choose power style, as the color is tiger ish but still very powerfull - also from the feedback a lot of people have mentioned this is the color they like the best. I hope that this helps.

I may be a little late to the party ... but have you considered a style-switcher? Visitors choose the style they want, and store the setting in a cookie.

Starting points for accomplishing this include:

* Particletree: http://particletree.com/features/dynamic-resolution-dependent-layouts/

* A List Apart: http://www.alistapart.com/articles/switchymclayout or http://www.alistapart.com/articles/bodyswitchers/

Oh, well ... I guess I can learn to like orange again ....

Classic Style

How about using all of them? Use it for each of the section - Main, Articles, Reports, Future, Notes and About

20

Thomas Baekdal - Jan. 13, 2007

Hmm... I cannot really decide - I just tweaked tweaked the colors and the layout again...

21

Thomas Baekdal - Jan. 13, 2007

...and so we have gone a full circle. The design has changed slightly, but the colors are now what they was before I started this redesign (alt=hough, a bit more saturated).

Maybe it is a sign that I getting old, and that my subconcious is resisting change - or it might be that my original color scheme was spot on.

I any case - now I like it.

Why don't you let the users choose it? Make the classic as default and put little color boxes in case they like others better..

Thomas Baekdal - Feb. 22, 2007

Because making x number of templates takes way too much time :)

...and I am actually quite happy with it as it is now.
