Apple's 8 Secrets

ComputerWorld recently "revealed" 8 secrets to why Apple is make such successful products. They are:

  • Engineering supports design - no exceptions
  • Fewer is better
  • The experience is the product
  • The product is the product
  • You can't please everyone, so please people with good taste
  • Leave the past behind
  • Product names are important. Really important
  • Group affiliation is the driver

I particularly like "The experience is the product" and "The product is the product".

Most companies forget this simple concept. Instead they make a mediocre product and try to make up for it by adding less important features and spend a huge amount of money on an marketing campaign. Your product is your most important selling point. If that doesn't work, neither will anything else.

Just take the iPod Touch - you want one just by looking at it...
