"24 Heures du Mans 2007" Web Application

I am not that particular interested in sport. I mean, I like sailing and skiing which I do when I got time for it. But there is one thing that has always intrigued me - the 24 hour endurance race "Le Mans".

I watch Le Mans every single year - and not only occasionally during the day - no, I watch 24 hours of Le Mans. I know how this sounds, every single woman in the world now thinks I am a geek - but who cares, it's Le Mans, it doesn't have to make sense.

What does this have to do with this website?

When you put so much effort into a single task, you want to have great tools to work with - and the Le Mans website isn't one of them. So, for the last 6 years I have been making a web application to solve my need for information.

I wanted a single and usable location to get:

• Live News
• The exact le Mans time
• Lap times
• Lap position
• Race events
• Picture, web cams
• Background information

I want to know more than the TV commenter's - or at the very least - just as much. When they says; "I think that is the leading Audi with a punctured tire", I can say "No, on my screen it clearly says that it is the second one with McNish in it".

Of course, the above screens are still just the concept for this year's Le Mans. I will not be able to make the final version until a few hours before the race (the source material is not available yet). The Le Mans application is based on the data coming from Lemans.org (the official website), and Club24 (the official Le Man race club).

There is always a ton of problems converting and styling the website data, and last minute changes (even drastic ones) are expected. Last year I had to change 60% of the backend system just a few hours before the race started - but hey, it is a long race and it is time well spent.

This is why I love the Web - Everything is possible!

Note: The Le Mans application is not made public due to copyright restrictions from A.C.O. (the organization behind Le Mans). This is strictly a personal thing. Sorry!

If A.C.O. wants to use this as part of the Club24 experience I will be more than happy to help you with that.

Light Version

Updated: June 15, 2007: Version 2 (beta) released

You can download a "light" version that is not a graphical rich as the "full" version, nor does it feature the content "wizary" seen in the screenshots above. But, most importantly it runs from a single HTML file (no data, data-prosessing or images are manipulated by my servers - and thus there is no copyright issues).
