Forget about 3D, here is a 6D image

Researchers at MPI Informatik have developed a new kind of lens that pushes the boundaries of what you can do with images.

The 6D Image can cast shadows depending on the location of the light source and can change what you see depending on the angle you are viewing it from. This takes 2D images to a whole new and super-photorealistic level. It is static images that can react to the world around them. And you don't need a computer or sensors to create the effect.

That is really amazing when you think about it. The potential for anything subject to a change in lighting such as billboards and backlight signs is staggering.

it is pretty amazing. For a bit there I wasn't quite sure what the practical applications for it were but then, all of a sudden, I felt as well illuminated as the bottle they used for explanation purposes. I wonder how long it might take for these lenses to be incorporated into mainstream products.
