The Human Car - Powered by You

Ford Canada has made a new commercial featuring people. I know, that doesn't sound too special - most commercials have people in them. But not like this... The Ford commercial features only people, and yet what you see is 3 cars.

Wait a minute!

But, then somebody yells out "wait a minute... Haven't we seen this before?" No, actually, you haven't. I agree that this is not first time a car manufacturer has used human bodies to create car shapes and body art.

Below is, for instance three similar ads from Hyundai and VW and BidWest. The special thing about the Ford ad is that it is not a "shadow trick". This is 3D art - not 2D "shadow" art.

Both types are very cool - and mind-boggling in an exciting way. I just happen to like the 3D type better.

I am sorry but that Ford spot is a DIRECT rip off of the Hyundai spot...and its even the same Director...he must be hard up for jobs these days....too bad that Ford could not come up with their own idea...in a way its flattery for Hyundai. First the Oscars that year and now Canada...and by the way they used the SAME leotards....sad I say...sad....

Still...it's a great execution of a beautiful idea. It's a remake that is conceptually different from the Hyundai ad. (there were no tableau in the Ford ad except for the cars). I think that the concept was taken to greater level with the Ford video and the difference in the lighting techniques made a big difference in the feel of the ad.

It was one of the best ads I have ever seen. It might not be a completely original idea, considering that human bodies were already used in other ads... however, as it has been said above... the concept is different...

And after all, nothing is new, everything is transformed... in this case, brilliantly transformed: "A car is just a car, until it is powered by you". It is just great!!
