Michael Roller has created Tame, which is a concept for updating all your status messages across whatever systems you happen to use. IM, Facebook, phones etc.

What you do, as far as I could figure out, is first to set whatever standard status messages you would like to use, then this is submitted to your Status Cube, which is them the devise you use to set whatever status messages that is relevant for you. You simply turn the cube to change your status.

That is an interesting concept, but I don't think it would work. Partly because I don't want to carry a cube with me, in order to control what status message I want to use. And more importantly, I actually made a status message web application a few years ago - and it failed miserably. The reason was, setting your status must never be a separate action, it should be something done completely automatic - depending on e.g. what you calendar says, or your current location.
But I want a cube - not to control my status - but to but in my office, at my desk, to let people know where I am or what I am doing. The thing is, I am rarely at the office, and people have a hard time figuring out where I am. Having a cube at my desk that I can update over the internet. That would be a cool solution.
I would spend all day doing nothing but writing different stuff on it - just for fun. Something like:

(via The Greener Grass, away status messages via a number of google searches and some strange imagination on my part)

Ooooh! Great idea! I might get one of those photo frames myself no. Oh, the possibilities. :D

Love you're ideas on this. I see some great possibilities for my own use., and I already have a photo frame...

Thanks!
BTW: Does anyone know where to buy a small photoframe with WI-FI? It is easy enough to find a big one, but I only want one for my desk (below 7").

Thomas,
Thanks for posting our concept and doing your own version of it! I like how you basically reversed the functionality - now it's like a Twitter broadcaster. Nice.

Hi Michael,
Thanks for stopping by and I do love the cube - please make it! :)
Also I do think that you concept shows a lot of promise. As i wrote I really think it would be better if the status was updated wherever you happen to now - instead of through a single device.
I tried to make that once (not via such a cool device as yours) and it failed badly. People simple didn't want invest the time into updating their status trough separate means.

I just had an idea - I should be able to do this using one of those fancy digital photo frames. I heard that the latest ones have Wi-Fi.
Then I could have this little picture on my desk, displaying whatever message I want.
