Graphic Edition
John Maeda, the author of the excellent book "The Laws of Simplicity", has designed a shoe (or more precisely the color and print).
There are several interesting things about it. The graphic is computer generated, and by that I do not mean something he made in Photoshop - it is instead the output of a computer algorithm. And, the in-sole is printed with the actual code used, handwritten by John Maeda.
The shoe went on sale on Nov 14, 2007 and is already sold out, but according to RBK Custom "the next limited edition is coming soon".

This sort of thing makes me ashamed to be a geek. The inner lining is imprinted with the code that produced the ugly graphic on the outside? So effing what?

That is actually a great example for what I refer to as decoration ... as I understand it, John did everything but designing, he really just decorated. The design seems to be made by Reebok, while I cannot find any art anyway.
This is not supposed to mean any criticism (as appealing decoration means hard and remarkable work, too), I am instead just happy to find another case that supports that art, design, and decoration definition again :)

Looking at the inside of the shoe, it reminds me of my first year of college. I had a shirt with the source code to decrypt DVDs printed on back. It was written in C.
During tests in our C class, sitting behind me was very popular. :)
